On the surface, Calliope is arrogant, brazen, and occasionally mouthy. She revels in conflict and chaos.
History:
In the beginning, there was only mother. Her mother never spoke of the story of her absent father, though she asked many times. Daena Creed is a respectable healer in the capitol, specializing in elvish herb-lore and spiritual healing. Her practices are a generational heirloom that spanned several millennia. Unfortunately for the Creed line, the last descendant doesn't have the slightest bit of interest in her family's legacy. Naturally, this has put an immense strain on the relationship of Daena and her daughter. Calliope lacked the patience and discipline that made her mother's work art. Daena did her best to will Calliope into developing a passion and talent for the craft, confining her daughter in an apprenticeship for her first fifty years.
Young Calliope Creed was bold and adventurous, often found in less than savory company when she could slip away from her mother's watchful gaze. These mercenaries and thieves taught her the underbelly of the world and Calliope found herself thriving for the first time in her life. The adrenaline and freedom was intoxicating to the young and impressionable elf. Daena tried to tighten her hold on her daughter and drag her back to the light and love of healing, which only shattered the tenuous relationship. Calliope would no longer bear the responsibility and shame of being her mother's disappointment.
Without the weight of someone else's expectations, Calliope bloomed in the company of outcasts, mercenaries, and thieves. They became the family that her soul yearned for, that loved and accepted her for who she was. They built her up to be strong-willed and taught her to fight. She discovered that she had quite the talent for deception and treachery. Eventually, Calliope's misadventures with outcasts lead her into the company of pirates.
Again, she was entranced. What could be more free than sailing on the sea? Obsessed with their way of life, Calliope eventually swindled her way into a cabin girl position. An incredibly humbling experience, she struggled to be in a position of being ordered around as such. Her tenacious passion to be more than she was ensured that she was on her best behavior. Painfully slow progress saw her through the lowly ranks. Through the years, she diligently learned the ways of the pirates. As she grew more confident in her skills and place, Calliope began to become bored on the ship that she toiled on. Rather frequently (frequently for an elf, that is), she jumped from ship to ship. She hated stagnation and came to love the life of a drifter, as she had never found a ship that quite felt like home. Though, she balked at the idea of her own ship and the mountain of responsibilities and commitments that came with it.
