After the group decided to head to the beach, Sophia told one of the guards to go get the carriage that she had ridden in to get to the marketplace in the first place.
She motioned for Kendry to follow her as she boarded the carriage, climbing inside and then sitting down on the bench inside. One guard climbed in as well, the other standing outside the carriage on the ledge. They waited for Kendry, and then they were off.
It didn't take very long for the carriage to make it to the beach, the horses they used were some of the faster ones that the castle owned. They were some of the best carriage horses as well, strong and stable to pull the QUeen.
When they stopped, Sophia grinned at Kendry. "Ready?"
She pushed the door open and stepped out, taking a deep breath of the salty air that blew in from the water. Her eyes widened as she looked out over the water, hearing the guards moving behind her.
"It's beautiful." She spoke softly and with awe.
(sorry I kinda grabbed him )

Kendry whistled as the carriage halted for the queen and himself to board, both eyebrows raised to accentuate his satisfied expression. He joined Sophia and the guard inside, having almost asked to ride up front, but instead making himself comfortable on the bench as curious ink black eyes examined the mobile structure.
The elemental was so transfixed by the details of the carriage's innards that he was distracted from worrying over their destination. Sophia's question came so suddenly, slicing his occupied thoughts like a freshly sharpened blade. He gave her a lopsided grin as she stepped out of the carriage.
The scent, carried by the ocean breeze, began to burn away Kendry's resolve. The mercenary hesitated at the door, jaw set tight and teeth grinding as he stared out over the waves. His legs felt terribly heavy as he forced them to step out of the carriage and to Sophia's side.
"Y-yes, it is." He cleared his throat, nervous fingers tapping at his lips. "You h-had said you haven't been here f-for a long time, right?"

Sophia looked back at Kendry as he exited the carriage, noticing his hesitation. When they had spoken about it, she had realized that he was a little bit wary... but the hesitation spoke volumes. She wouldn't say anything, of course, but she knew that it had to have been had for him to come here.
She appreciated it.
When he spoke, she smiled at him, trying to reassure him.
"Yes, it's been a while. Mother used to bring all of us out here with her, but since she's been gone, we haven't made a trip here. We had picnics and stuff." She thought about it, maybe she'd have to bring her siblings here. Like old times.
"I do love it here." It made her feel so connected to her element, which just made everything hum within her. She kicked her shoes off and walked closer, wading into the water with a sigh.
She looked back at Kendry again. "Want to see a little of what I can do?"

Kendry crouched where he stood, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched Sophia step into the tide. His hands gripped at his elbows as he tried to hold all of his nerves together, not wanting them to unravel all around him like a loose ball of yarn. Paranoid eyes kept watch as the waves lapped the sand. How could he protect the Queen of Atelus from pirates if the very sight of the sea made him cower like a frightened puppy?
There was a time when the water was his best friend - it was where he went to play, to hide, to cry, to share all of his secrets to be carried away out to sea. It was where he mapped out his dreams for his future that would never come to be.
His head perked up slightly at Sophia's question, nodding briefly as curiosity lit up his eyes.

Sophia watched as Kendry crouched in the sand, frowning only a little. She could tell he was worried. What had happened to him?
She wanted to know, but she also knew better than to pry into other people's lives. She didn't know what had happened, but it was obviously bad enough that he still had this kind of reaction when around the water.
Perhaps she could distract him just a little.
She turned back to look out at the water after he nodded, lifting her hands after a moment. The water in front of her began to move, before five streams of water shot up into the air. They dance in front of her, creating many patterns in the air in front of her. Some of it froze into small, star like objects, before they slowly flew behind her, landing on the beach. She turned back to Kendry, the water still dancing behind her. It was simple stuff, but she wanted him to be less afraid. After a moment, the water behind her fell back into the water below.
The stars on the beach began to move again, this time shifting and forming a sculpture of Kendry himself. She grinned at him. "What did you think?"

Curiosity shifted into awe as Kendry watched Sophia manipulate the water she stood in, fascinated by each shape that manifested around her. His weight shifted when the stars approached him, and he fell back onto his bottom, unable to look away. A startled laugh escaped him as the sand shifted and began to build upon itself, as if a ghost were starting a sandcastle. More laughter erupted from him when he realized it wasn't a castle at all, but a sandy mimic of himself.
Kendry pushed himself up to get a better look, circling his counterpart as his lips curled back into a toothy grin. "I think he looks better than the real deal," he barked. He was absolutely delighted, and it showed in the way he continued to size the sculpture up, turning to Sophia and posing beside it.
In a matter of seconds the Queen had created such beauty, like artwork, when all Ken could imagine his electricity doing was bringing harm upon another, a tool for torture. The mercenary took a step back from the sculpture, adding more distance between himself and the water in which Sophia stood.
"So, you can just imagine something and it will…" He gestured absurdly with his hands, waving them in an upward motion. "…just make it?"

Sophia grinned as Kendry approached his likeness, a laugh escaping her as he inspected it. "I"m not sure about that." He posed beside it and another laugh escaped her, dissolving into almost a fit of giggles.
She nodded slightly when he asked the question, looking over at the sculpture for a moment before she turned back to Kendry.
"Pretty much. I've gotten good at like, sculptures and stuff. I've trained to fight with it as well, but I've always found a lot more joy in creating, than destroying." Her father had been a warrior, but hadn't really passed it down to his eldest. She loved the art she could make though. "I used to sit in the garden in the castle and just make sculptures of ice all day." When she could get away with it, that was. Most of the time her mother wanted her studying, or being tutored. "It was very relaxing, and I loved it. I always like people's reactions to things like that." She motioned towards the statue again. "So I've made a lot of them."

Kendry stared at Sophia when she began to giggle, his eyes wide with surprise at the sight of it - the Queen herself acting and speaking in such a carefree manner, even demonstrating her powers before someone who was a total stranger only hours ago. Their bond was formed over a piece of dried jerky, for God and Goddess's sake!
Paranoia clung momentarily, and Ken's eyes darted around the beach, only finding a sliver of peace when he remembered the presence of the guards. He laughed loudly, awkwardly. In all sincerity, he was delighted that Sophia was enjoying herself, and maybe it was just his promise to protect her that snapped him into alertness.
She used her elemental powers to create beautiful things, like the dancing shapes that had manifested from the seawater. Kendry used his electricity as a weapon. Appropriate for protection, he supposed, but it made his gut twist in a funny way.
"We'll have to have another day like this," he blurted, standing at attention. "I am grateful to have been witness to your artistic prowess, your Majesty." He leaned into Sandy Ken, forgetting that it was indeed made of only sand, and toppled over gracelessly with it.

As surprised as Kendry was, Sophia was as well. She hadn't felt this relaxed in quite a long time, it was rather interesting. Since her mother's death, she really hadn't felt at ease. For whatever reason, being with Kendry relaxed her and reset a lot of the stress that she was feeling. It was something that no one at the castle had accomplished, even though they had been trying.
He spoke and she smiled at him, nodding her head. She definitely wanted another day such as this. Obviously it couldn't happen all of the time, but she needed this. She felt so much better about everything-
Her thoughts were interrupted as Kendry leaned against the statue and toppled over with it. A quick laugh escaped her again, as she made her way over and offered her hand to help him up.
"Are you all right?" She grinnned. "Sorry that wasn't more sturdy!"

"No, I'm sorry!" Kendry scrambled to his knees, futilely scooping piles of sand together in an effort to reshape the poor sculpture. "I murdered him!" He cursed himself silently, wondering what else he could do to embarrass himself. The mask was crumbling, and he tried desperately to keep it from dissolving completely. Somehow, causing the mimic to meet an untimely doom was harder to swallow than completing a contract to kill.
He felt his stomach tighten when he finally noticed the hand that was offered to him. Twice in one day. Is this how it would be between them? Ken clasped Sophia's hand in his own, this time accepting the help that she offered to him. He held on to it as he rose and for a few moments longer as he stood there staring down at their linked hands. The fellow elemental focused on trying to feel Sophia's energy humming beneath her skin, like how his so often betrayed him.
"Sorry," he said finally, withdrawing his hand and beginning to pat himself down in an attempt to shake off the clinging sand.
