TW: Mentions of emotional abuse, implied physical abuse, manipulation from parental figures
Name: Afton Branwen
Nickname/Alias: N/A
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Race: Witch
Rank: Nobility
Play-by: Cillian Murphy
Personality:
To most, Afton is the cold-death-staring-powerful witch son of the family of Branwen estate. And that is the image he wants to uphold. He is reserved and quite emotionless, hard to read and strangely intimidating. Afton commands respect and does not tolerate unnecessary acts, wanting to be efficient and productive as best he can. Moral is foreign to him and something he was not taught from a young age, only learning that whatever is beneficial and the most rewarding is the best option. This makes him quite malicious, unafraid to step over bodies in order to reach his goal.
A conserver of energy, he talks very little and is definitely more of a listener than a speaker. He has found that having knowledge and being wise is the best way to get what you want and so does not control with an iron fist. He is cunning and a deep thinker, rarely will he take action and act on emotion unless it has a purpose and benefit.
He’s a stressed out man and so withdraws himself from human interaction as much as possible. So while Afton is stone faced and calm in the face of people, he isn’t one for talkative conversation. Only wishing to be around the people he chooses, and only chooses.
Bottling up his thoughts and stress can have a negative effect on him. He’s prone to outbursts sometimes and it can be easy to cause this if you know how to push those buttons. Afton is notably confident against any person, but if one thing had to have a weakening effect on him overall it would be his parents. He may not show it at first but they have an effect on him that scares him that he’s not doing good enough.
History:
A bloodline of ambition and money only ever resulted in one thing; power. For generations the Branwen family built itself on its own grounds to search for this power and become a strong family, carving theur own name into history as best they could until it got easier. Naturally, a family consisting of pure blooded witches led to their belief that the discover of new magic would further move them ahead of any other family. Magic for witches was what defined them and so, they sought only to become stronger in this field. During this time his father, Edgar Branwen, used the money and influence he had to startup his business of a commercial property business. The family had ownership of land, lending that land as rent to any smaller businesses who wished to use it as well as building their own structures if business partners ever came forward to offer ideas. This business helped greatly to fund the family’s goal of discovery of more powerful magic.
Afton was the first born son to Edgar and Felicia Branwen and with it came his originally unwanted responsibility as heir. He did not go to public school, kept behind the walls of their home to learn what he needed and only needed. Afton’s education consisted of his only purpose in life as deemed fit by his father. There was no childhood, no fun and certainly no time for mingling with anyone below them. He fought it at first, screamed at his father for being shouted at over the smallest things he didn’t yet understand. Crying wasn’t received well either. Afton was told emotions were negative, inefficient. Never show them.
Among other things, from a young age he was expected to learn fast in the art of magic. Afton was forced to learn quickly and so adapted well to his father’s vigorous training. As a result, despite Afton being such a young age he excelled in magic and continued to do so.
Eventually, even if he had outbursts now and then, Afton adapted to his lifestyle. It was all he knew, he didn’t know the normal childhood anyway. His siblings came into the picture as he grew older, noticing they received somewhat of a similar treatment. As a teenager, he was far more reserved and only ever showed his emotion when no one else was around, especially not his parents. His parents weren’t parents, they were teachers. His mother told him he should be strong, don’t be weak. No connection was ever made with his mother or father and yet, he grew to be ok with that. He didn’t need to love them. That’s what his mother had told him.
Often his mother would encourage Afton and his siblings to simply not respect their half brother. His half brother was a prime example of what not to be like, what to look out for- view lesser, as expressed by his mother. So, naturally wanting to please his parents Afton lived by exactly that.
Reaching adulthood, Afton became accustomed to his role in the family and while he would now and then quickly glance at a differing opinion, Afton always did what he was brought up to do. Bury anything that tainted what the family always stood for. He’d been exposed to what the real world had to offer and each exposure he was conditioned on how to deal with each experience a certain way. With his extremely powerful and versatile skills in magic, Afton became better known as a powerful witch. He was due to be the head of the family some day and so needed to act like it. As a result, Afton grew quite stressed over the years. Always wanting to be better and focus on a million things to reach his family’s goals.
