Basil listened to the pirate intently, a content smile her face when she realized that he was indeed going to answer some of her questions, despite her interruption. He had been with the Captain Dupont a long time, from the sounds of it, before the Captain went down with his ship. It did sadden her, to hear that something so beautiful was gunned down to the bottom of the sea. “Oh, what a shame,” she breathed, the sadness enveloping her for just a split second – but she was never one to stay down for long.
’There’s no use dwelling on the past.’
Any mood Basil experienced had the possibility of being only fleeting, and just as quickly as her mood changed, so did her ever-expressive face. She frowned for a brief second, but quickly recovered to look at him sympathetically instead. It was obvious the pirate wasn’t his the biggest fan of his former captain, but Basil could also tell he mourned for him, having most likely learned everything he knew from him. It would be impossible to forget such a person. Besides there was always good in the bad. Life was not so black and white. People kept trying to make it so, just to make their own lives easier; but just as there are actions there are consequences; and just as there was evil, there was good. Good intentions or good lessons to be learned. It was all a matter of perspective. Even if nature decreed the werewolf pirate and noble vampire be enemies, that seemed like something they could agree on.
When she noticed that he seemed to be pleased with the wine, her regular sunshine smile was back in place. It truly was the little things she enjoyed most, and emotions were so infectious. Only when those around her were happy was she truly happy, which was a great trait to have, as a noble lady and eventual host of many important people – the heir to her father’s house. Not a fact her household had widely accepted as of yet. She was the first to ever be born rather than created into the long line of the kingdom’s vampire nobility. No doubt there were some that opposed her.
If he served no other ship after The Diamond, that meant he acquired The Wolfsbane next, and she wondered how he managed to do so. "And The Wolfsbane? How did you acquire her, then? Were you able to afford it after all those years? How much treasure does a pirate really get? Maybe you took her from someone else? Earned in battle? Took over from a dying captain? Or did you…commandeer… her?” She felt that was a more appropriate way of asking him if he stole the boat in question. By this time, the female was invested, leaning towards him in anticipation of every word. The questions rattling off of her tongue just as quickly as she could think of them. After a moment of hesitation, she tilted her head. “You really don’t have to answer any of my questions, you know. If you would rather not I understand. I get ahead of myself sometimes." Self-aware enough to know that she could be overbearing, she didn’t want to ruin their interaction, grateful for what he had already shared with her. “Surely you must have some questions of your own that you’ve been dying to ask, no? Feel free to give me a taste of my own medicine, if you’d like.”
