Finneas was unsure if the lessons he could impart on another were truly 'words of wisdom' of any sort, but it pleased him someone found value in his liberating ways of a Pirate who still held a semblance of a moral compass. He supposed charisma spoke. He managed to have a whole crew somehow flying loyally under his flag, after all. Even as much shit as Emry gave him, the man never left his side after all this time. He supposed people found something about him to be worthy of them, even their lives and livelihoods. What, exactly, it was, he'd probably never understand, himself, but he'd be eternally grateful for it.
As much as he felt he'd been learning from his friend, Aur, it seemed the road was going both ways between them. That much pleased him. He was glad to know they found things to learn from one another.
He'd even been calming towards the budding feelings he'd felt, was still feeling, for Kendry. Thanks to Aurelius. He would not soon forget their early conversation on the matter, understanding now that Finn would always be Finn, no amount of confusing sensations bubbling in his chest would change that fact. He could have feelings for Kendry and still be his carefree and promiscuous self. Wasn't like he had a ring on his finger, now was it?
Oof...now that thought was too far off the deep end. Marriage.
Yea, he wasn't even getting started on that thought process.
"Ah, Emy boy barks a lot, but he trusts me," relatively speaking, anyways.
"Besides, I think he's glad I got a were-brother to talk to. Think he's always kind've been a bit down that I could never truly confide in him, too deeply about that stuff. I think he likes you, really. You'll know if he starts insulting you. That definitely means he likes you."
Yea. Emerson was an odd one. Good guy, though.
Finn's gaze wandered down his chest to the doubloon that hung from it, finding once more that Aur was toying with the thing and he smiled fondly as he placed his hand over his friend's, pushing the coin into his grasp in indication he was more than welcome to look it over, though it still hung from the Pirate's neck.
"My mother gave it to me the day I left Ziorang."
A wistful smile somewhere between fond and forlorn crossing his face.
"Pirates, we melt down stolen coin and re-brand it so no one can trace its owner. Ziorang has a forge just for that purpose. That logo there," he pushed his index finger to the symbol that looked like a fancifully calligraphic Z branded into the worn gold piece of coin, "That's the brand of Ziorang. She said it was the first coin she ever earned working the tavern there. Said it kept her safe all those years, was her good luck charm. Promised it'd do the same for me. I'm still standing, after all, so maybe it's not as crazy as it sounds."
Trying to hide the pained memories behind a strained laugh, behaving as if the idea were ridiculous that some piece of metal could be the thing that had been keeping him alive all these years.
But he still wore it and refused to ever take the thing off, so it didn't seem he was really ready to deny the tale, either.
