Kendry suspected that Finn had misunderstood his words, a cruel part of him thankful for the fact that the pirate seemed to be spiraling into his own pain. A literal monster, supposedly, sat slumped before him - memories of the people he had killed haunting him. For the mercenary, memories like that were bittersweet - he knew what he had done was wrong, but there was enjoyment for him in overpowering another and wrenching life from them.
When he murdered men, he felt so distant from everything, like when the wreckage of the burning ship threatened to take him under the frigid waves with it. Instead, he was washed ashore. Whatever hope for a happy future was left at the bottom of the sea which had rejected him, but giving back to the world a boy who would someday prey on the hopes of others.
Finn's sudden movement tore Kendry from his thoughts, alert to the matter at hand once more. Listening, silent and still, his dark eyes watched the outburst unfold before him. His eyebrows twitched at the sound of the wood cracking from the force of Finn's punch - not exactly something a normal man could achieve, even when throwing a fit.
Then the apologies.
As his friend, the pirate captain, the cursed man, the Dread Wolf, the guilt-ridden son, or whatever he was… As Finn sputtered apologies and asked for forgiveness, Kendry strode forward to meet him, sparing no moment to the desolated man before him. Both of his hands took hold of Finn's, holding on tightly as he glared into the other man's eyes.
"You are my only friend. No matter what you did or what you will do, that won't change. Do not ask for my forgiveness, for I have none to give to you. Instead, allow me to give you something else - the knowledge that despite who you make yourself, I'll always be there to walk with you."
Maybe it was a sudden promise considering they have really only known each other for about a day, but Kendry was already clinging to what could be. He wanted to protect Finn, the man who was the sea and made him forget about the fear that was very much alive beneath them.
